Union Grove High School Broncos Shine at Columbus Invite

On May 10, 2025, the Union Grove High School Broncos showcased their skills at the Columbus Invite held at Columbus Country Club. This varsity golf event featured schools such as Lakeside Lutheran, Lodi, Slinger, Columbus, Abundant Life Christian, Waupun, Mount Horeb, and Wisconsin Heights. The Broncos competed under sunny skies with temperatures around 70 degrees. Cody Nelson, a standout player from Union Grove, clinched the individual winner title with a notable score of 75, ending the day 1-over par. His performance included an impressive six birdies, a testament to his exceptional putting and tee shots. Senior Caden Eichner added to the team's effort with a score of 92, while sophomore Jack Ryan closely followed with 93. Another sophomore, Cody Borchardt, completed his rounds with a score of 94, and senior Caleb Westrum rounded off the scoring with a 99. Overall, the Broncos accumulated a team score of 354. Reflecting on the event, the team's coach highlighted the unique challenge posed by the Columbus Country Club's layout, which features many trees and smaller greens compared to their home course. This tournament was a unique experience in that Columbus Country Club is a 9-hole course, requiring them to play it twice. The coach praised Cody Nelson's outstanding performance, emphasizing his strong drives and precise putting. Looking ahead, the Broncos are set to compete in the Southern Lakes Conference Championship on May 14, 2025, at Brighton Dale. This next challenge will be a crucial event for the team as they aim to build on their recent successes.
