Union Grove High School Broncos Shine at Sectional Tennis Championships
Union Grove High School's girls tennis team, known as the Broncos, showcased a remarkable performance at the sectional championships held on October 8, 2025, at Bullen Middle School. Competing among 17 teams, the Broncos secured a commendable third place with a total score of 29 points. This event was a pivotal moment in their season, featuring strong individual and doubles performances that highlighted their skills and determination.
In singles, the standout performances came from Lorelei Nelson, who clinched 3rd place in the #2 singles after winning her match 7-5, 4-6, 10-4. Elli Duval dominated the #3 singles by securing the championship with wins of 6-0, 6-3, followed by a decisive 6-3, 6-0 victory in the final match. Emma Santarelli also made headlines by finishing 2nd in the #4 singles, although she faced a setback in the championship, losing 7-5, 6-1.
The doubles team of Brooke Spang and Morgan Stewart also made a significant impact in the #1 doubles bracket. They fought valiantly to finish in fourth place after winning their first match 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Their success at this level has earned them a spot at the state tournament in Madison.
The coach praised the team's effort, stating it was a total team effort that led to their high placement out of 17 strong teams. With a current season record of 22-2, the Broncos are looking forward to continuing their success at the state tournament scheduled for October 16, 2025, in Madison.
