The Union Grove High School Broncos showcased a solid performance at the Southern Lakes Conference Major #1, held at Ives Grove on April 8, 2025. Battling against tough competitors and challenging weather conditions, the Broncos finished fourth with a commendable team score of 346. On a day marked by cold temperatures in the mid-30s and increasing winds during the back nine, Union Grove's varsity boys golf team competed against the rest of the Southern Lakes Conference. Standout performances came from Caden Eichner, who led the team with a score of 82, and Cody Borchardt, who achieved a career-best round of 87. Other significant contributions were made by Cody Nelson with 88, Caleb Westrum with 89, and Jack Ryan with 92. Coach Swanson commented on the team's performance, "As a team, it was a pretty good day. We improved by 12 strokes from our performance on Saturday. Caden really played well on the back nine. He struggled with his driver early in the round but was steady on the back, shooting a 39 on the blue course. I was also really impressed with Cody Borchardt. He had one triple bogey, but other than that he was really steady. He's really hitting the ball well and does a great job of staying out of trouble on the course. His short game has also improved a lot from last year. Caleb Westrum also played well." The Broncos are set to continue their season at the Westosha Quad 2-Day tournament at Hawk's View and Goldeneye on Friday and Saturday. With improvements seen in this event, expectations are high for the next challenge. For now, the Union Grove community can take pride in their golf team's resilience and progression in the early part of the golf season.
