Union Grove piles up 15 hits in 12-6 win over Waterford

Union Grove broke the game open early and got a key late lift from Tucker Katterhagen’s fifth-inning home run in a 12-6 road win over Waterford in a Southern Lakes Conference game Friday.

The Broncos finished with 15 hits and eight walks, turning steady traffic on the bases into a four-inning offensive push. Drew Dinauer led the way in the middle of that surge, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Katterhagen also had three hits in five at-bats, including a home run to left in the fifth inning, plus singles in the second and sixth.

Union Grove opened the scoring in the second inning, stringing together three singles. Dinauer’s hit brought home two runs for the first breakthrough. The Broncos added on again in the third, when Pina drew a walk that forced in a run and Dinauer followed with a sacrifice fly to make the early advantage grow.

Katterhagen’s two-run homer in the fifth gave Union Grove more separation and highlighted another productive inning. Pina, Schmitz and Danielson each added multiple hits as the Broncos kept pressure on Waterford’s pitching staff throughout the night. Williams helped set the tone for that approach with a team-high three walks.

On the mound, Evan Northup earned the win with 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed four hits and three runs, two of them earned, while striking out nine and walking four. Dylan Ashburn added a scoreless inning in relief and did not allow a hit. Waterford’s Schneiker took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits over two innings.

Waterford got two hits apiece from Lusic and Thoen, and Lusic drove in three runs while finishing 2-for-3. The Wolverines also turned a double play, but Union Grove’s consistent production across the lineup kept the Broncos in control. Union Grove will be back in conference play Monday, May 18, 2026, with a 4:30 p.m. CDT road game at Westosha Central.
