Union Grove High School turned in a solid team effort at the TKO Wrestling Tournament in Fort Atkinson on Saturday, highlighted by an individual title from unbeaten standout Camden Rugg as the Broncos finished 10th in a deep 16-team field.

Sycamore (Illinois) won the team championship with 263.5 points, followed by Muskego (189.5) and Waterford (179.5). Belmont (176) and Sauk Prairie (161) rounded out the top five, with Hamilton-Sussex (154), Prairie du Chien (150.5), Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge (136.5) and Pewaukee (110.5) finishing ahead of Union Grove. The Broncos compiled 78 points to place 10th, finishing ahead of Westfield, Lomira, Fort Atkinson, Edgerton, Cambridge and The Lincoln Academy in a tournament that featured strong programs from across Wisconsin and Illinois.

Rugg delivered the performance of the day for Union Grove, winning the 113-pound weight class and being named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. In the final, Rugg defeated previously unbeaten Liam Schroeder of Sycamore, handing the Illinois standout his first loss of the season and solidifying Rugg’s status as one of the top lightweights in the region. With the title, Rugg improved his season record to 42-0, continuing a dominant campaign that has yet to feature a blemish.

The 113-pound bracket proved to be one of the showcase weight classes of the event, and Rugg’s run through the field provided a major boost to Union Grove’s team score. His victory over Schroeder not only secured maximum placement points for the Broncos but also came against the eventual team champion, underscoring the quality of his performance on the day.

"We wrestled well today verse some tough competition. This is all about getting ready for the conference tournament and the state series starting in February."

Union Grove also received key contributions from Waylon Winter and Jax Braun, who both reached the podium with fifth-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Those consolation-bracket runs added important scoring depth for the Broncos and helped the team secure a top-10 finish in the final standings. Podium finishes from multiple wrestlers reflected a balanced lineup capable of competing against a broad range of opponents.

The Broncos’ showing at Fort Atkinson comes against the backdrop of a demanding midseason schedule, and the results suggest the team is trending in a positive direction as the postseason approaches. With Rugg remaining undefeated and recognized as the outstanding wrestler of the meet, and with Winter and Braun establishing themselves as reliable point-scorers, Union Grove appears positioned to carry momentum into upcoming conference and tournament action.

As the season progresses, the performance at the TKO Tournament offers a clear benchmark for the Broncos. Against high-level competition from within Wisconsin and neighboring Illinois, Union Grove established itself as a competitive presence, with Rugg’s 42-0 record and individual title standing out as the centerpiece of a productive weekend.
