BURLINGTON, Wis. - Union Grove Girls Tennis delivered a complete performance Thursday, Sept. 3, sweeping Burlington 7-0 in a varsity dual match. The Broncos won all seven matches in straight sets, combining steady singles play with a decisive performance throughout the doubles lineup.
Lorelei Nelson set the pace at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. After working through a competitive opening set, she controlled the second set without dropping a game. The win improved her season record to 16-3 and gave Union Grove a strong result at the top of the singles order.
At No. 2 singles, Brooke Spang turned in another consistent performance, winning 6-1, 6-1. She limited Burlington’s opportunities in both sets and improved to 19-1, the best record among the individual results provided from the match. The straight-set wins from the top two singles positions helped anchor the Broncos’ shutout.
The closest highlighted set came at No. 3 doubles, where Ruby Christiansen and Bella Cerfus were pushed to a first-set tiebreaker. The Union Grove pair responded by sweeping the tiebreaker 7-0, then carried that momentum into a 6-1 second-set win. The victory raised their record to 16-4 and prevented Burlington from extending the match to a deciding set.
Union Grove also claimed the four remaining matches in straight sets, completing the seven-court sweep without needing a third set anywhere in the lineup. The match began at 11:15 a.m. CDT in Burlington with partly cloudy conditions and a temperature of 76 degrees.
The Broncos will next travel to Kenosha Tremper for an away match Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, at 4:15 p.m. CDT.
