Union Grove Takes Second at Appleton North Invite With 2-1 Record

APPLETON, Wis. - Union Grove earned two decisive victories and finished second at the Appleton North Invite on Monday, completing the event with a 2-1 record. The Broncos swept both Appleton East and Appleton West 7-0 before falling 5-2 to Appleton North, improving their overall record to 10-2.

The consecutive sweeps highlighted Union Grove's depth throughout the singles and doubles lineups. The Broncos won all 14 matches across the two victories, putting themselves in position to compete for the top spot against Appleton North. Although the host team prevailed in the final dual, Union Grove completed a strong day with 16 match victories across its three duals.

Union Grove received unbeaten performances from the top of its singles lineup. No. 1 singles player Lorelei Nelson and No. 2 singles player Lorelei each went 3-0, combining for six victories across the three rounds. Their consistency helped the Broncos build momentum in the two shutouts and provided two reliable spots throughout the invite.

Brooke Spang delivered one of the day's closest victories, defeating an Appleton East opponent 7-6(2), 2-6, 10-4. After taking the opening set in a tiebreaker and dropping the second, Brooke Spang recovered to control the match tiebreaker and close out the win.

The No. 3 doubles pairing of Ruby Christiansen and Bella Cerfus also came through in a tight match against Appleton East 6-2, earning a 2-6, 10-3 victory. That result added another notable win to a day in which the Broncos combined dominant team performances with several pressure-tested individual efforts. The two 7-0 sweeps and two points against Appleton North secured the runner-up finish and sent Union Grove home with a 10-2 overall record.
