We played well for the first matches of the season

Union Grove earned two dual-match victories and finished second at the Muskego Invite on Saturday in Muskego Wisconsin, completing the event with a 2-1 record. The Broncos defeated Franklin 4-3 and Racine Case 6-1 before falling to Muskego 6-1.

The closest match of the day came against Franklin, where the outcome rested on the No. 1 singles contest. Lorelei Nelson won the opening set 6-4, dropped the second 6-3 and prevailed 10-8 in the match tiebreaker. Her three-set victory secured Union Grove’s 4-3 team win and highlighted a 2-1 day for Santarelli.

Brooke Spang delivered the Broncos’ most consistent individual performance, going 3-0 at No. 2 singles. She earned a victory in each dual and provided Union Grove with a dependable point throughout the tournament. Her undefeated day helped anchor the singles lineup as the Broncos worked through three matches.

Union Grove also received a strong effort from Emma Santarelli at No. 3 singles. Santarelli finished 2-1, giving the Broncos another winning record in the singles portion of the lineup. Together, the results from the top three singles positions played a central role in the team’s victories over Franklin and Racine Case.

The No. 2 doubles pairing of Ada Santarelli and Lila Elsbernd added two more wins during the invite and finished 2-1. Their performance complemented the Broncos’ singles success and gave Union Grove production in both phases of the lineup. The 6-1 victory over Racine Case was the team’s most decisive result of the day.

Although Muskego handed Union Grove its only loss, the Broncos left the invite with four lineup positions posting winning records and a runner-up finish. Union Grove will next travel to face Kenosha Tremper on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 4:15 p.m. CDT.
