Union Grove Tops Burlington by 34 Strokes Behind Chelsea Grove Haertel’s 44

Union Grove placed four golfers among the top four individual scores and defeated Burlington 189-223 in a girls golf match Aug. 25 at Brown's Lake Golf Course. Chelsea Grove Haertel earned medalist honors with a 44, leading a balanced performance that gave the Broncos a 34-stroke victory.

Haertel, a junior, finished one stroke ahead of senior Grove,Alana,Keevers, who carded a 45 and took second place. Senior Grove,Aubrey,Young followed with a 49 for third, giving Union Grove the three lowest rounds of the match and building the foundation for its winning team total.

Sophomore Adeline Grove Dobrinska completed the Broncos' four counting scores with a 51, tying for fourth overall. The rounds of 44, 45, 49 and 51 added up to 189, with only seven strokes separating Union Grove's first and fourth counting golfers.

Junior Grove,Abby,Waterworth added a 54 and finished seventh overall. Although that score did not count toward the team total, it gave Union Grove five rounds of 54 or better and provided additional depth behind the Broncos' four scorers.

Senior Burlington,Anna,Weis led Burlington with a 51 and shared fourth place with Adeline Grove Dobrinska. Senior Burlington,Abigail,Dutcher shot a 53, while senior Emma Burlington Church posted a 59 and sophomore Ellisyn Burlington Burgan finished with a 60. Those four rounds produced Burlington's team score of 223. Sophomore Lillian Burlington Jones added a non-counting 66.

Union Grove's advantage came from consistency throughout the lineup. Each of the Broncos' counting scores was 51 or lower, while Burlington counted two rounds in the 50s and a 60. Haertel's match-low 44 led the way as Union Grove secured first place and the decisive dual-match win.
