Voorhees University Lady Tigers Fall to Stillman College in HBCU Athletic Conference Basketball
The Voorhees University Lady Tigers faced a challenging match for their Education Day hosting over seven hundred students from local school, against Stillman College at the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center located in Denmark, South Carolina, on December 4, 2025. Despite strong individual performances and a resilient defensive effort, the Lady Tigers fell to their rivals with a final score of 55-41. The game opened with Stillman College gaining an early lead, as they scored the first points of the game. Voorhees' Kaelin Davis responded by tying the game at 4-4, and Shykiera Brown kept the momentum going with a crucial 3-pointer. The Lady Tigers ended the first period ahead, leading 13-8. However, Stillman College rallied back, ending the first half leading 24-19 after Jaida Minter's pivotal free throws and a notable defense. Into the third period, the opponent extended their lead briefly, but the Lady Tigers, through the efforts of Davis who closed the gap to a 7-point game, kept fighting back. The period ended closely with Stillman ahead by just one point (30-29). The final quarter saw Voorhees struggling to maintain their offensive power, while Stillman capitalized to lead by as much as 15 points, ultimately securing the win with a 14-point margin. Top performers for Voorhees were Shykiera Brown, who led with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists. Kierra Diggs was a standout on defense with 11 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the team's overall late-game offense could not match Stillman's intensity. Looking ahead, the Lady Tigers will aim to improve their conference record (currently 0-3) and overall 3-6 record as they face Rust College on December 6, 2025, at the same venue. This upcoming game provides an essential opportunity for the Lady Tigers to regain their form and confront their season's challenges with renewed determination.
