Wayne State Blanks No. 20 Rollins 3-0 on the Road
Winter Park, Fla. - Clifton Buchanan, Jr. Wayne State combined timely run production with a shutout pitching performance Sunday, earning a 3-0 road victory over No. 20 Rollins at Alfond Stadium. The Warriors’ ability to put three runs on the board while keeping a nationally ranked opponent scoreless proved decisive.
Wayne State’s pitching staff set the tone against the Rollins lineup. The Warriors did not need a high-scoring offensive performance because their work on the mound kept Rollins from answering, allowing each Wayne State run to carry added weight throughout the game.
The Warriors’ offense supplied the necessary support with three runs. Although no individual or inning-by-inning statistics were available, the final margin reflected an effective combination: Wayne State created scoring opportunities, converted enough of them and protected the advantage behind its pitching and defense.
The shutout was particularly significant because it came away from home against the nation’s No. 20-ranked team. Rollins entered the matchup with the ranking and home-field setting, but Wayne State controlled the most important part of the game by preventing the hosts from scoring.
