Wayne State came up with the decisive outs when it mattered most Saturday, turning back Purdue Northwest 5-3 in a tight matchup at Harwell Baseball Field in Detroit. In a game defined by strong pitching and timely hitting, the Warriors protected their lead with the biggest sequence in the seventh inning, when pitcher #18 struck out the side with runners in scoring position to keep Purdue Northwest from breaking through.

The victory fit the shape of a classic pitcher’s duel, even with eight total runs on the board. Wayne State did enough offensively to stay in front, then relied on its staff to finish the job against a rival that continued to apply pressure late. The Warriors’ ability to convert key chances at the plate, paired with shutdown work on the mound, made the difference in a game that stayed competitive into the final innings.

Center fielder #12 delivered the top offensive line for Wayne State, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple. His production helped drive the Warriors’ five-run output and gave the lineup an anchor in several of its best at-bats. With scoring opportunities limited for much of the afternoon, those extra-base and run-producing swings carried added weight.

The defining moment arrived in the seventh. Purdue Northwest put runners in scoring position and threatened to swing the game, but #18 answered with three straight strikeouts to end the inning and preserve Wayne State’s advantage. Rather than letting the momentum shift, the Warriors walked off the field still in control, and that sequence stood as the clearest turning point of the afternoon.

Saturday’s result gave Wayne State a well-earned home win by combining the elements that usually decide close baseball games: command on the mound, clean execution in the biggest spots and enough timely offense to separate. Against Purdue Northwest, the Warriors got all three, and the seventh-inning escape ensured the 5-3 final held up.
