Austin Catholic Crusaders Defeat ASH in Four Sets Behind Strong Serving

The Austin Catholic Crusaders earned a 3-1 league victory over the Academy of the Sacred Heart (ASH) on Tuesday, taking control with strong serving and closing the match with a decisive fourth set. The Crusaders won 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16 to complete the road victory.
The opening set provided the closest finish of the frames won by the Crusaders. With only three points separating the teams, Austin Catholic made enough plays late to secure a 25-22 win and the early advantage. The Crusaders then raised the pressure in the second set, creating separation on the way to a 25-16 victory and a two-set lead.
ASH extended the match by responding in the third set. The Crusaders remained within striking distance, but ASH held on for a 25-22 decision to cut Austin Catholic’s match lead to 2-1. Rather than allow the momentum to carry into another set, the Crusaders answered immediately. They matched their second-set margin with another 25-16 result in the fourth, sealing the match in four sets.
Madison Mondry led the service effort with 11 aces, repeatedly putting ASH under pressure before it could establish its offense. Isabella Bongiovanni supplied the attack with 10 kills, giving the Crusaders a consistent option at the net. Keely Bieske anchored the back row with 12 digs, helping Austin Catholic extend rallies and turn defensive touches into scoring opportunities.
The combination of Mondry’s serving, Bongiovanni’s finishing and Bieske’s floor defense helped the Crusaders recover after dropping the third set. Austin Catholic won three sets by a combined 27 points while showing the composure to respond after ASH’s lone set victory.
The Crusaders return home to face Cardinal Mooney Catholic on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at 7 p.m. EDT.
