Austin Catholic’s Crusaders women’s soccer team continued its home field defense in emphatic fashion, rolling to a 9-1 victory over Fitzgerald on Monday night at 62811 New Haven Rd in Ray. The match was effectively decided in the first half, when Rose O’Connor erupted for four goals and one assist to put the Crusaders firmly in control before halftime.

The Crusaders’ attack set the tone early in the first half, consistently breaking down Fitzgerald’s back line with quick passing and off-the-ball movement. O’Connor led the surge, finishing four chances and setting up another goal to cap a dominant individual half. Helen Lucas delivered two assists in the opening half, showcasing her formidable presence as a forward. Keely Bieske was also a key creator in the opening 40 minutes as well, chipping in one goal and two assists as Austin Catholic built an insurmountable lead.

Austin Catholic’s balanced first-half scoring also featured goals from Elena Ferri, and Rebecca Shrodes, giving the Crusaders seven goals before the break. Fitzgerald managed its lone tally later in the half, briefly interrupting the Crusaders’ run but not changing the overall momentum of the match. Austin Catholic carried a comfortable cushion into halftime with an 7-1 advantage.

The Crusaders continued to control play in the second half, managing the tempo while still finding moments to extend the lead. Bieske completed a standout night by adding two more goals after halftime, finishing with a hat trick and two assists. Ferri and Lucas each contributed an assist in the second half as Austin Catholic moved the ball efficiently through midfield and into the attacking third.

Defensively, Austin Catholic limited Fitzgerald’s chances for most of the match, allowing just the single first-half goal and keeping the visitors off the board after the break. The Crusaders’ back line and midfield worked together to win second balls and quickly transition into attack, supporting the high-scoring performance up front.

With the 9-1 result, the Crusaders women’s soccer team showcased a prolific offense and multiple standout individual efforts, led by O’Connor’s four-goal first half and Bieske’s three-goal, two-assist outing. The team's early-season momentum drives Austin Catholic forward as they prepare to face a tough Richmond squad in a Wednesday night match at Richmond High School.
