Crusaders post school records, pile up personal bests at Lutheran High North meet
Austin Catholic’s boys track and field team turned in one of its strongest early-season outings Wednesday at Lutheran High North, highlighted by two school records, several podium finishes and a long list of personal records. The Crusaders’ top moments came in the boys 4x100-meter relay and the 400 meters, where Gavin Bowers again lowered his own standard.
The relay team of Michael Beres, Matthew Beres, Jackson Hermann and Bowers set a new school record in the 4x100 with a time of 51.49 seconds, giving Austin Catholic one of its signature performances of the meet. Bowers also broke his own school mark in the 400, finishing in 56.65 seconds. He added a second-place finish in the event and later placed fourth in the 800, showing range across multiple middle-distance sprints.
Matthew Beres delivered another standout result for the Crusaders in the discus, where he finished second. Austin Catholic also picked up points in the 3,200, with Andrew Rosso earning fourth place. Those finishes helped round out a balanced day for the Crusaders, who saw contributors across sprints, relays, throws and distance events.
Beyond the top finishes, the meet featured quite a few personal records for Austin Catholic athletes, a sign of steady progress this spring. The pair of school records underscored that momentum, particularly for a team still early in the season and continuing to build depth across events.
With new marks already on the board, the Crusaders leave the Lutheran High North meet with tangible gains and a clear sign of what could be ahead. Austin Catholic will look to carry that momentum into the next competition as the team chases more personal records and more school-record performances this season.
