Crusaders turn in strong early-season marks at Lutheran High North meet
Austin Catholic’s girls track and field team came away from Wednesday’s meet at Lutheran High North with a handful of top-four finishes and several personal records, continuing a steady start to the outdoor season.
The Crusaders were led by Cassie Bowers, who placed second in the 3200 meters and finished third in the 1600. In the field events, Abigail Glynn took third in discus with a personal-record throw of 78'0'' feet, while Takrise Wargo added a fourth-place finish in shot put. Those results gave Austin Catholic multiple scoring performances across distance and throwing events.
Glynn’s discus mark stood out as one of the team’s best efforts of the day. Her throw of 78-0 not only earned a third-place finish, it also highlighted one of several personal records posted by the Crusaders. Gina Di Ponio also recorded a personal best, giving the team another sign of progress as the season begins to take shape.
Austin Catholic's biggest story centered on individual development and event-by-event consistency. The Crusaders found points in multiple areas and showed depth with strong efforts from both the track and field groups. The distance races produced two of the team’s highest finishes, while the throwing events added more momentum to the overall performance.
Austin Catholic competed on the road in Macomb on April 8, at Lutheran High North in an early-season varsity meet. Results like Bowers’ runner-up finish in the 3200 and Glynn’s personal-record discus throw gave the Crusaders solid building blocks, especially with more athletes beginning to reach season-best form.
Several personal records gave the Crusaders reason for optimism leaving the meet, and the team will look to build on those marks as the season continues. For Austin Catholic, Wednesday’s strongest takeaway was clear, early progress is showing up on the results sheet.
