Balanced attack, strong ball movement send Bay Boys Basketball past North Olmsted, 54-44

The Bay Boys Basketball team used a fast start, balanced scoring, and a season-tying assist total to earn a 54-44 road win over North Olmsted on Saturday night at North Olmsted High School.

The Rockets set the tone in the first quarter, racing out to a 17-6 lead behind active defense and efficient offensive execution. North Olmsted responded in the second quarter, trimming the margin and forcing Bay into a tighter contest as the Rockets’ advantage shrank to 25-23 by halftime. Despite the shift in momentum, Bay maintained composure, relying on ball movement and rebounding to regain control after the break. They would go on to outrebound North Olmsted 42-23 on the night.

The third quarter proved pivotal as Bay rebuilt its cushion, outscoring North Olmsted 11-6 in the frame to take a 36-29 lead into the fourth. From there, the Rockets closed out the game with an 18-point fourth quarter, matching the Eagles’ 15 points down the stretch to secure the 10-point victory. The Rockets’ ability to answer each North Olmsted push in the second half, particularly in the final minutes, preserved the early work done in the opening quarter.

Ryan Miller led the Rockets with a game-high 24 points, providing consistent scoring throughout the night and giving Bay a reliable option whenever the offense needed a basket. His production helped stabilize the team during North Olmsted’s fourth-quarter surge as the Eagles tried to mount a comeback. Miller’s performance headlined a strong offensive night that saw multiple Rockets contribute in key moments.

Bay also controlled the glass, with two players finishing with double-digit rebounds. Brody Beggs recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 2 steals, impacting the game on both ends. Kelan Rose matched the effort on the boards with 11 rebounds of his own to go along with 8 points and 2 steals. Their work inside helped limit North Olmsted to one shot on many possessions and extended several of Bay’s offensive trips.

The Rockets’ passing game was another standout element, as the team tied its season high with 16 assists. Ethan George helped orchestrate the offense with 8 assists, consistently finding teammates in scoring positions and helping fuel the early 17-point first quarter. Emmitt Naughton added 4 assists, providing strong transition ball movement and key playmaking to keep the Eagle defense guessing.

With the 54-44 victory, Bay combined strong guard play, interior rebounding and unselfish ball movement to earn a solid road win. The Rockets’ ability to build an early lead, respond to pressure before halftime and finish the game with poise offers a positive blueprint as they continue through the heart of their schedule. They will visit the Brookside Cardinals in a non-conference bout this Tuesday, January 27th.
