Bay High School Tennis Team Edges Out Lakewood in Nail-Biting Season Opener

In a thrilling start to the regular season, Bay High School's varsity tennis team clinched a narrow victory against Lakewood High School with a 3-2 overall score. The match, held on August 28, 2024, at Lakewood High School, showcased standout performances across both singles and doubles competitions.

Julie Mavis led the charge for Bay High School, dominating the court in the first singles with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory. Although Lauren Barrett in second singles faced a tough challenge, she played impressively, narrowly missing a win with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 4-6. Alice Jones, competing in third singles, fought valiantly though she was overpowered 5-7, 1-6.

The doubles teams brought additional victories for Bay, starting with Ella Schelzig and Izzy Frombach who triumphed in the first doubles, echoing the dominant performance of Mavis with matching 6-2, 6-0 scores. In the second doubles, Zoe Norcross and Sofi Dodge turned the tide in a gripping three-set match, ultimately prevailing 2-6, 7-5, 6-0, with a spectacular shutout in the final set.

"I was really proud of all the girls today. We had a great match! Our new freshman, Savannah Keberdle, had a good exhibition match as well! Very proud of the team," commented the coach, reflecting jubilance and pride in the team's performance and spirit.
