Bay Battles Westlake to 2-2 Draw Behind First-Half Goals

WESTLAKE, Ohio - Bay High School used first-half goals from captains Andrew Starnes and Oliver Marotta to earn a 2-2 draw against Westlake on Wednesday afternoon. The Rockets produced both of their goals before halftime, with Will Waters and Weston Matty providing the assists in the road matchup.

Starnes, wearing No. 10, helped set the attacking tone with one of Bay’s two finishes. Marotta, No. 12, also converted during the opening half, giving the Rockets another important contribution from their leadership group. Waters and Matty supported the attack by creating the scoring opportunities that led to the goals.

The two first-half connections accounted for all of Bay’s scoring. Although the Rockets were unable to add another goal after halftime, their early production proved enough to secure a result once Westlake also finished with two goals. With neither side able to separate itself by the final whistle, Bay came away with a hard-earned draw.

The match was played in mainly clear conditions with a game-time temperature of 85 degrees and winds around 16 mph. In those warm and breezy conditions, the Rockets’ ability to generate two goals in the opening half stood out. Starnes and Marotta supplied the finishing touch, while Waters and Matty gave Bay four different players directly involved in the scoring.

Bay’s captains delivered when the Rockets needed an attacking spark, and the supporting work from Waters and Matty helped turn those chances into goals. The 2-2 final gave Bay a positive road result and a balanced offensive performance to build on, highlighted by two first-half finishes and contributions from multiple players.
