Bay Boys Basketball Weekly Game Recap vs Westlake, at Valley Forge

Cale LaRiccia | Bay High School | Feb 8, 2026

On Tuesday, February 3rd, the Bay Rockets Boys Basketball team opened strong but could not withstand a blistering second-half shooting display from Westlake, falling 77-56 in the second game of a varsity doubleheader at home.

Bay matched Westlake through much of the first half, moving the ball effectively and generating quality looks on offense. The Rockets trailed just 32-28 at halftime, staying within one or two possessions for long stretches by limiting turnovers and competing on the glass. The game turned after halftime when Westlake caught fire in the third quarter, shooting 70 percent from the field and seizing control of the contest. Bay continued to compete but was forced to play from behind the rest of the way as Westlake’s shooting surge stretched the lead into double digits.

Offensively, Bay was led by Emmitt Naughton, who paced the Rockets with 17 points and 6 assists. Brody Beggs added 14 points and 7 rebounds, providing interior scoring and a presence on the boards. Ryan Miller contributed 11 points, knocking down key shots to support the Rockets’ balanced scoring attack, while Kelan Rose facilitated the offense with 5 assists, helping keep the ball moving against Westlake’s defense.

On Friday, February 6th the Bay Rockets Boys Basketball Team built an early lead but could not withstand second-half pressure, falling 56-50 despite a strong shooting night from Kelan Rose in a tightly contested matchup.

The Rockets set the tone in the first quarter, executing efficiently on offense and defending well enough to grab the early advantage. That momentum carried into the second quarter, where Bay maintained control and took a 24-20 lead into halftime. The game shifted after the break. Turnovers in the second half began to pile up for Bay, allowing the opponent to generate extra possessions and easy scoring opportunities.

Rose nearly swung the outcome with a standout performance from the perimeter. The guard finished with a team-high 21 points and went 7-of-9 from 3-point range, catching fire in the second half to bring the Rockets back. His outside shooting helped Bay close the gap to a one-possession game late, giving the Rockets a chance to tie before they were forced to foul in the closing seconds to regain possession.

Ryan Miller totaled 17 points and 5 rebounds. On the glass, the Rockets also received key contributions from Jack Bly, who pulled down a team-best 7 rebounds, and Brody Beggs, who added 5 rebounds and helped limit second-chance opportunities for much of the night.

Bay’s ball movement was another bright spot. Emmitt Naughton led the way with 6 assists, repeatedly finding shooters and cutters in rhythm, while Ethan George added 5 assists of his own to keep the offense flowing. That passing helped fuel the Rockets’ first-half lead and late surge, even as turnovers ultimately proved costly in the final outcome.

The Rockets will play next on Friday, February 13th, at Lakewood High School.
