Bay Boys Cross Country Secures 6th Place at Avon Lake Early Bird Meet

Jack Hautz | Bay High School | Sep 2, 2025

The Bay Boys Cross Country showcased their determination and skill at the Avon Lake Early Bird cross country event held at LCCC on August 30, 2025. Competing against strong local schools such as Shaker Heights, Avon, Avon Lake, Lakewood, Westlake, and St. Eds, the boys' cross country team achieved a commendable 6th place out of 18 participating teams. Leading the effort for the Rockets in the Varsity race, Sacha Jones placed an impressive 17th overall. Following closely were teammates Liam Jager and Stephen Murphy, who completed the race in 19th and 27th place, respectively. Noteworthy performances also came from younger team members Gavin English and Charlie Juratic, with Charlie slashing his personal best time by over 1:30, and Gavin clocking in at 18:14, a notable achievement as it marked his first time qualifying for the varsity letter standard. In the Open race, Bay High School continued to shine. Spearheaded by Dan Buttrick, who valiantly secured the 34th position out of more than 220 runners with a time of 20:10, the Rockets saw a series of personal bests. Max Clevenger and Micah Bendoritis, among others, significantly improved their times, underscoring the depth and potential of the Rockets' roster. Notable mentions include Mickey Smith, Gerry Maloney, and Gavin Fry, who all made substantial cuts to their previous personal records. As the Rockets gear up for their next challenge at the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival on September 6, 2025, at Hedges Boyer Park, the team's spirit and improvement bode well for future competitions.
