Bay High School delivered a strong overall showing Tuesday at the OHSAA Sectional Tennis Tournament in Medina, even though the Rockets came up just short of advancing to the district tournament. Several Bay entries pushed deep into the bracket, with doubles pair Blaise Linsenmeyer and Nate Trnavsky and singles player Martin Hausler each reaching the quarterfinals.
Linsenmeyer and Trnavsky turned in one of the Rockets' best runs of the day. The doubles team won its first two rounds in straight sets to earn a place in the quarterfinals, moving within one match of a district berth. Their tournament ended there, but their play gave Bay a legitimate chance to qualify and highlighted one of the top performances of the sectional round.
Hausler also made a deep push in singles, advancing to the quarterfinals before dropping a tough match that cost him a trip to districts. His run helped anchor Bay's strong tournament effort and underscored the depth the Rockets brought to the sectional field.
Bay also saw encouraging results from Sacha Jones and Callum Moss, who teamed up in doubles for the first time this season. The pair played well in its opening match and came away with a win before falling in the second round to the eventual district qualifiers. Beckett LaVogue and Ethan Elek, competing in their first OHSAA sectional tournament, also opened with a victory before coming up short in the second round.
Taken together, the results reflected a productive day for the Rockets. Bay did not send a qualifier on to the next stage, but the program posted multiple first-round wins, produced quarterfinalists in both singles and doubles, and showed promising performances from newer pairings and first-time sectional competitors.
On a clear morning in Medina, the Rockets put together an outstanding performance at sectionals, even without the district breakthrough they were chasing. The depth of Bay's lineup and the progress shown across the bracket offered a strong finish to the tournament day.
