Bay Boys Track & Field tops Valley Forge 80-57 in Dual Meet
Bay Boys Track & Field turned in a strong all-around performance Wednesday, defeating Valley Forge 80-57 in a dual meet in Bay Village. The Rockets built the win with sprint victories, distance depth and a series of field-event points that gave the home team control across the lineup.
Jayden Perrine led the sprint group by winning the 100-meter dash, with Jack Downing adding more team points by taking third. Bay also showed its strength in the 1,600, where Liam Jager, Stephen Murphy and Adrian Ray swept the top three spots in a 1-2-3 finish. Mikey Taylor won the 800, and Colin McAlea added another first-place finish in the 200.
One of the meet’s biggest highlights came in the 3,200, where Murphy posted a major personal record to win the race. Jager finished second and Gavin English took third, giving Bay another event with multiple high finishes. That distance production helped the Rockets steadily separate themselves on the team scoreboard.
Bay also delivered in the relays and hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay team of Evan Taulbee, Nick Cebulis, Downing and Max Fischer earned a victory, and Fischer also won the 300-meter hurdles. Those performances added to the Rockets’ edge on the track and reinforced the team’s balance from event to event.
In the throwing events, Braden Egan, Danny Zipfel and Ilias Ghaffari scored key points in the shot put, while Egan and Zipfel finished first and second, respectively, in the discus. Oliver Marotta contributed in the jumps with a second-place finish in the long jump, rounding out a productive afternoon in the field events for Bay.
Competing in clear conditions with temperatures in the low 40s, Bay pieced together the kind of complete meet coaches look for in dual competition, with victories spread across sprints, distance races, relays and throws. The Rockets’ combination of event winners, depth and Murphy’s breakthrough 3,200 helped secure the 23-point win over Valley Forge.
