Bay Boys Track & Field rose to the moment in a loaded Division III District Track, winning the team championship with 134 points and earning regional berths in 12 of the 17 events. Competing Thursday and Saturday, the Rockets paired big-event victories with clutch qualifying performances, turning one of Ohio’s strongest District fields into a championship celebration.

Saturday brought some of Bay’s biggest points. Jackson Smith and Lute Harmon delivered a huge 1-2 finish in the high jump, with Smith winning the district title at 6-1 and Harmon taking second at 6-0. Jayden Perrine then added another championship in the 100 meters, winning in 10.82 despite a strong headwind. Perrine was not done, later placing second in the 200 in 21.65 to secure another trip to regionals and cap one of the top all-around performances of the meet for the Rockets.

Bay’s sprint relays made an even louder statement. The 4x100 team of Evan Taulbee, Ben Kamm, Colin McAlea and Perrine raced to a district title in 43.39. The 4x200 group of Will Curran, Kamm, Max Fischer and Perrine followed with another championship, winning in 1:29.28. Fischer also turned in a strong double individually, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.46, just two-hundredths off the win, then coming back for third in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 40.72.

Bay also found crucial points and qualifying spots in the middle-distance and distance events. On Thursday, the 4x800 relay team of Liam Jager, Adrian Ray, Stephen Murphy and Mikey Taylor fought hard and still earned fourth place to move on. Murphy later returned in the 3200 meters and placed third in 10:11.42, a strong effort in a demanding double. In the 800, Taylor ran a personal-best 2:01.15 to finish second and book his place at regionals.

The Rockets added more regional qualifiers in the field events. Braeden Egan secured a spot in the discus with a fourth-place throw of 134-5. Freshman Logan Bigrigg also advanced with a personal-best 11-8 in the pole vault, good for fourth place. Those results helped round out a balanced championship effort as Bay scored across sprints, relays, distance and the field.

With the district trophy in hand, Bay now turns its attention to the regional championship at Austintown Fitch on Thursday and Saturday. After winning a deep district and advancing in 12 events, the Rockets head to the next round with momentum in every phase of the meet.
