Bay Defeats Lutheran West in Four Sets Behind Balanced Serving

Bay High School opened its varsity volleyball schedule with a four-set victory Tuesday afternoon, defeating Lutheran West 25-15, 18-25, 25-21, 25-19. The Rockets responded to a second-set setback by winning two consecutive sets to complete the 3-1 road victory.
The Rockets established the early advantage with their most decisive set of the match. Bay took the opener by 10 points, reaching 25 while holding Lutheran West to 15. Lutheran West answered in the second set, reversing the momentum with a 25-18 win and evening the match at one set apiece.
With the match level, Bay regained control in a competitive third set. The Rockets worked their way to a 25-21 victory, giving them a 2-1 match lead and putting Lutheran West under pressure entering the fourth. Bay then closed out the match with another steady performance, winning the final set 25-19. The Rockets outscored Lutheran West 93-80 across the four sets.
Serving depth helped Bay sustain its attack throughout the match, with eight Rockets recording at least one service point. Payton Masterson led the team with nine service points, while Sloane Kerber added seven. Amelia Vecchio and Lila Ross each finished with five service points, and Andy Naughton contributed four.
Addyson Hoegler and Camille Costin each supplied three service points, while Morgan Parris added one. Together, the eight contributors combined for 37 service points, giving the Rockets production from multiple spots in the rotation during the four-set win.
Bay will remain on the road for its next match, visiting the Copley Indians at 3 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026.
