Bay drops competitive 4-1 tennis match to St. John

Bay High School dropped a competitive 4-1 varsity tennis match to St. John on Thursday at Bradley Park, with Martin Hausler providing the Rockets’ lone team point in a straight-set win at first singles.

The overall score did not fully reflect how tightly contested the afternoon was. Bay pushed multiple flights deep into their matches, including a three-set battle from Nate Trnavsky at second singles. Trnavsky forced a deciding set and stayed in contention throughout, but came up just short of pulling out another point for the Rockets.

Hausler’s performance at the top of the singles lineup stood out for Bay. He handled first singles in straight sets, giving the Rockets an early success against a strong St. John side. His win was the clearest breakthrough of the match and highlighted Bay’s ability to compete at the front of the lineup.

Bay also got a hard-fought effort in doubles, where Ethan Elek and Beckett LaVogue battled through three sets at second doubles. The pair extended the match and kept pressure on St. John well into the afternoon, adding to what was a competitive showing across the lineup even as the final team score favored the visitors.

In a 4-1 loss, the Rockets still showed depth and resilience by turning several flights into extended contests. Between Hausler’s straight-set win, Trnavsky’s three-set fight at second singles and the three-set effort from Elek and LaVogue at second doubles, Bay made St. John earn the result at nearly every turn.
