ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - Bay Boys Track & Field put together a deep, balanced two-day showing at the CWC Championship and finished second in the team standings with 140 points, seven behind champion Rocky River’s 147. With districts set for this week at home, the Rockets left the meet with momentum built on wins in the hurdles, sprint points, relay strength and a series of personal records across the field and distance events.

Max Fischer delivered one of Bay’s biggest performances, sweeping the hurdle races. Fischer won the boys 110-meter hurdles in a personal-record 14.93, then returned to take first in the boys 300-meter hurdles in 41.68. Lute Harmon added more points in the 110 hurdles, finishing third with a PR, and later doubled back in the field to take second in the boys high jump with another personal-best clearance of 6 feet. Jackson Smith won the boys high jump at 6-2, another major result for the Rockets in a meet decided by a narrow margin.

Bay’s sprinters also produced a strong scoring day. Jayden Perrine won the boys 100-meter dash in a season-best 10.58, while Ben Kamm placed fourth in the 100 in a personal-best 11.22. Kamm followed that with a third-place finish in the boys 200 in another PR, 22.73, and Perrine added sixth in the 200. In the boys 400, Will Curran scored with a fifth-place finish in 52.97, and Perrine fought through a calf cramp after qualifying for the final to still add points for the Rockets.

The relays were another major piece of Bay’s runner-up finish. The boys 4x100 relay of Evan Taulbee, Jack Downing, Colin McAlea and Kamm placed second in 43.87. The boys 4x200 relay team of Curran, Fischer, Perrine and McAlea also finished second in 1:31.04. In the final race on the track, Fischer, Kamm, Curran and Mikey Taylor ran 3:32.33 to take second in the boys 4x400 relay. Bay also picked up a third-place finish in the boys 4x800 relay, where Kieran Ripley, Liam Jager, Adrian Ray and Taylor turned in the team’s best time of the season at 8:21.77.

Bay’s middle-distance and distance groups added important points and more postseason encouragement. Taylor placed third in the boys 800 with a personal-record 2:01.89, and Ripley followed in fifth with another PR at 2:03.77. In the boys 1600, Jager and Gavin English both competed in a strong field as the Rockets continued to build toward the postseason. The boys 3200 brought another top-three finish, with Stephen Murphy taking third in a personal-record 10:07.43. Jager also recorded a personal best in the 3200.

In the throws, Braeden Egan placed fourth in the boys shot put and fifth in the boys discus, while Danny Zipfel scored in both events with a sixth-place finish in shot put and fourth in discus. Logan Bigrigg added points in the boys pole vault with a fifth-place finish. Taken together, the performances showed the kind of event-by-event depth Bay has been building as championship season arrives. The Rockets now head to districts at home as the next step on the road toward Columbus.
