Bay Girls Cross Country Narrowly Misses State Qualification at Division 2 Regional Meet
On October 25, 2025, the Bay High School Girls Cross Country team competed in the Division 2 Regional event at Boardman, facing a challenging lineup of competitors from 39 total teams including notable schools such as Hathaway Brown, Wadsworth, and Hudson. The event marked a critical juncture in their season, with state meet qualifications on the line. The Rockets finished in 11th place, scoring a total of 341 points, narrowly missing a trip to the state meet by just 4 points. Key athletes like Clare Messmore, Anika Schulz, and Anne Weber, put forth strong performances with Messmore crossing the finish line in 20:15, closely followed by Schulz at 20:23 and Weber at 20:29. Despite their efforts, the heartbreaking outcome saw the team miss state qualification by a slim margin. Coach Scott Snyder reflected on the race with pride, praising the Rockets' execution, 'Our spread between our first runner and our fifth runner was an incredible 24 seconds. I am so proud of all of the accomplishments this season and especially of the race the girls ran today at Boardman. It was their finest performance of the season.' This sentiment was echoed by the performance of Maya Gonzalez and Kai Ripley, who also contributed significantly to the team effort. This regional meet concluded the season for the Bay High School Girls Rockets, marking an emotional yet powerful end to what has been described as a commendable season by players and spectators alike.
