Bay Girls Cross Country Shines at Avon Lake Earlybird Invitational
The Bay High School Rockets Girls Cross Country team delivered an impressive performance at the Avon Lake Earlybird Invitational held at LCCC on August 30, 2025. Competing in the Girls Maroon Division, the Rockets finished second with a total of 73 points, outrunning teams from Cleveland St. Joe's, Huron, Magnificat, Shaker Heights, North Royalton, Avon Lake, Beaumont, and Lakewood. Standout runner Maya Gonzalez led the Rockets by securing the second place individually with a remarkable time of 19:31. Her performance was a key highlight of the event, demonstrating her prowess on the challenging course. Furthermore, the Rockets showcased their depth with six freshmen among their top seven runners, highlighting a promising future for the team. Other notable finishes included Clare Messmore in 9th place with 20:13, Anika Schulz in 15th place with 20:37, Anne Weber in 21st place with 21:07, Chloe Vincent in 26th place with 21:27, Nolie Piktel in 29th place with 21:32, and Elyse Edelman in 39th place with 22:09. Coach Scott Snyder commented on the team's performance, stating, 'Our top seven all finished in the top 40 in the Maroon Division today; a solid team effort.' This sentiment reflects the strong and cohesive performance by the team across the board. Looking ahead, the Bay High School Rockets Girls Cross Country team is set to compete next at the Wooster Cross Country Invitational on September 6, 2025, at Wooster. The team hopes to build on their successful outing and continue their strong form in the upcoming event.
