The Rocket throws team, yet again bringing big points in the Shot and the Discus!

Despite off-and-on rain for much of the day, the girls enjoyed several fantastic performances en route to a 3rd place finish at their home invite, the 8th Annual Bay Rockets Invitational.

The field events started the day, and Riley Mitchell continued her fantastic season, winning the Shot Put by over 3', giving her a second invitational win on the season. The senior would later earn a 6th place finish in the Discus and was joined by Leila Ghaffari and Susie Hargett, both of whom earned 7th place results in the Shot Put and the Discus, respectively. Meanwhile, in the Long Jump, Junior McKenna Adkins earned an 8th place finish thanks to a season PR while sophomore Gigi Waters earned a career PR in taking 3rd place in the Pole Vault.

In the distance events, the 4x800 team of freshmen Elyse Edelman, Kai Ripley, Chloe Vincent, and Maya Gonzalez started the events on the track, and did so with a fantastic come-from-behind 5th place. Kai would later run the 3200, taking 7th, and would be joined by senior Anne Weber, who looked great in her first race of the year, taking 3rd in the distance event. Maya and Elyse would also come back later, this time in the 1600, to finish 1st and 6th, respectively, as Maya set not only the meet record but a school record that had stood since the 1970s!

In the sprints, junior Annie Willmitch once again stole the show, enjoying 1st place finishes in both the 100m and 200m. Annie would join McKenna and juniors Birdie Kreuger and Ruby Render to take 5th in the 4x200 Relay and then 6th in the 4x100 with the addition of freshman Lily Kamm. Also scoring for the team were junior Evin Mason (8th in the 400), junior Ainsley Scheid (5th in the 300 Hurdles), and the 4x400 Relay team of Evin, Ruby, Ainsley, and Lili Lawnicki (7th). Congratulations to the entire team on a great home invitational and good luck next week at North Olmsted for a conference dual meet and then at this weekend's Comet Relays!
