Bay Girls Track & Field Takes 2nd, Celebrate Seniors, in Final Home Meet!
The Bay Girls Track & Field team placed second Wednesday during a rainy tri meet versus Lakewood and Magnificat, but despite the drizzly and cold conditions, the Lady Rockets put in some fine performances before wrapping up the meet by celebrating the seniors that have meant so much to the program during years with the team.
In the scoring the girls fell 74-50 to Lakewood but defeated Magnificat 50-13. In the field events, it was the throws team that shined, with senior Riley Mitchell earning yet another win, this time in the Shot Put. She'd back up that performance with a runner-up finish in the Discus while teammates Leila Ghaffari and Susie Hargett would score in both events, Susie taking 3rd in the Discus and Leila taking 2nd in the Shot with a new career PR!
On the track, Clare Messmore, Kai Ripley, Elyse Mull, and Anne Weber started the scoring with a second place finish in the 4x800 while Annie Willmitch took 1st in the 100m Dash. Additionally, Anne later returned to take first in the 1600 with a new career PR! Annie also returned, joining Evin Mason, McKenna Adkins, and Jaiden Latimer-Smith in the 4x100 to take second behind a strong Lakewood group. McKenna would then enjoy her best 300H time of the year, taking 1st versus one of the best hurdlers in the conference while Ruby Render would enjoy a 1st place finish in the 200! Bridget Rettig would add points from the distance team, finishing just behind the leader to take 2nd in the 800 while Maya Gonzalez earned her second-straight midweek win in the 3200 despite doing a workout to stay fresh for future meets.
The evening ended with a celebration of the team's seniors, thanking distance runner Harvey Belveal, hurdler Hannah Bergmann, distance runner Abigail Feiszli, shot put specialist Leila Ghaffari, miler Morgan McFarland, 2025 CWC Conference Shot Put champion Riley Mitchell, and distance all-arounder Anne Weber, who ran great during the meet, pink wig and all! Congrats to all of the seniors on an amazing run with the team and good luck to the entire team on Friday at Avon Relays!
