Over the course of two days the Girls Track & Field team competed in the District Championships in Avon, Ohio, and despite heavy rains on Wednesday and gusty, windy conditions on Friday, the Lady Rockets put forth several outstanding - and in some cases season best - performances en route to a 12th place District Championship finish. On the track, sophomore co-captain Annie Willmitch once again led the way for the sprinters, qualifying to the finals of the 100m Dash before finishing 5th overall, running the second fastest time of her career despite facing strong winds. Annie quickly recovered to help lead both the 4x200m and 4x100m relays, both of which also made the finals. Aided by freshmen Alex Linsenmeyer and Ruby Render as well as fellow sophomore co-captain's Jaiden Latimer-Smith, Mckenna Adkins, the girls set a season best in the 4x200m, finishing 5th by but a half a second. Mckenna, joined by sophomore Ainsley Scheid and freshman Violet Powell, also competed in the hurdles, capping promising seasons in both the 100m and 300m distances of the event. Wrapping up the sprints, Ruby and sophomore Birdie Krueger both qualified to the finals of the 400m dash, with Birdie continuing her torrid finish to the season with yet another event PR en route to the team's third 5th place finish on the track. In the distance events, the 4x800m team of junior Anne Weber and seniors Hannah Starnes, Brookyln Marriott, and Erin Belveal scored points for the team with their 8th place finish while Hannah later competed in the 800m run with freshman Addisen Patrick. Brooklyn ended her career on the track with a 10th place finish in the 1600 while Erin and Anne finished 7th and 8th, respectively, in the team's final event of the season, the 3200m run. The field event team was once again led by junior co-captain Riley Mitchell, who enjoyed a near-PR in the Shot to take 8th in one of the most competitive Districts around. Freshmen Chloe Pyros and Gigi Waters earned valuable experience as they capped their seasons in the Shot and the Pole Vault while seniors Sophie Gadd, Keira Jansen, and Amelia Carroll enjoyed the final jumps and vaults of their stellar careers. While the competitive season is complete for the girls, they'll gather one final time, this Tuesday at 6:30pm in the BHS auditorium, to celebrate the completion of a fine season on the track and on the field.
