Bay High School Rockets Excel in Dual Meet Against Lakewood

In an exhilarating display of talent and teamwork, Bay High School's swimming and diving teams faced off against Lakewood in a closely contested dual meet. The Rockets' boys' team emerged victorious with a score of 97 to 88, while the girls' team fought valiantly but were bested with a score of 80 to 97 against the Rangers. The boys' team saw remarkable performances across the board. Aaron Bernys led the charge, clinching first place in both the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle events. Luke Filiatraut demonstrated his prowess as well, securing the top spot in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Ollie Brown dominated in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) and the 100 breaststroke. Freshman standout Liam Jager made significant contributions by winning the 500 freestyle and earning a strong third place in the 200 freestyle. Peyton Myers and John Allan both added crucial points, with Myers winning the 50 freestyle and Allan placing third in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. The team's success was bolstered by victories in the 200 Medley Relay (Filiatraut, Brown, Bernys, Myers) and 400 Freestyle Relay (Bernys, Myers, Brown, Filiatraut) while Charlie Vatolin's first-place finish in diving was vital in sealing the win for the Rockets. On the girls' side, the team showcased their depth and resilience. Lily Wavak outpaced her opponents in the 50 freestyle, and Emery Ziemnik not only won the 100 butterfly but did so with a personal best time. Moriah Murtha led the 100 backstroke, closely followed by Ziemnik in second. Gwynn Miller won the 100 breaststroke, asserting her dominance with an impressive win. Belle Dent's victory in diving, along with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (Harman, Murtha, Ziemnik, Wavak) kept the Rockets competitive throughout the meet. Despite the mixed results, the event displayed the strength and potential of both teams as they continue to develop and challenge themselves against tough competitors. With such strong individual and team performances, Bay High School's Rockets have good reason to look forward to the rest of the season with optimism.
