Bay High School Rockets Golf Competes at Cleveland West Conference Preview
The Bay High School Rockets Golf team participated in the Cleveland West Conference Preview on August 7, 2025, hosted at Coppertop Golf Course in Valley City, Ohio. The varsity boys team faced fierce competition against all eight teams from the Cleveland West Conference in an 18-hole stroke play format. Despite challenging weather conditions featuring high winds and temperatures in the 80s, the Rockets managed a team score of 340, taking them to a 4-4 standing.
Senior players Ben Wagner and Travis Ropelewski both shot an 83, tying for 10th place in a field of 48 players. Wagner achieved nine pars, whereas Ropelewski excelled with a 36 on the back 9 and secured two birdies. Junior Ryan Skryp recorded an 86, following his strong iron game which allowed him to hit numerous greens. Trevor Ormsby, another senior, rounded out the team's top performances with an 88.
During the tournament, the Rockets faced some initial difficulties. The coach remarked on the tough pin placements and noted that the team struggled to find their rhythm early on. "The energy level [was] below expectation level," he commented, emphasizing the room for improvement in future competitions. Player Ben Wagner also shared his thoughts, humorously noting his need to improve his putting: "I played great from tee to green, next time I will bring my putter with me."
Looking forward, the Rockets are set to compete in the St. Edward Gold Tournament at Highland Park. With a current season record of 37-31, the team is keen on advancing their position in the next Cleveland West Conference event, aiming for higher placements on the leaderboard.
