Bay High School Rockets Golf Shines at Keystone Classic

The Bay High School Rockets Golf team participated in the Keystone Classic held at Grey Hawk Golf Club on August 5, 2025. Competing against 18 teams from Cuyahoga and Lorain County, the Rockets showcased their skills in an 18-hole stroke play tournament. The Varsity Boys team, known for their resilience and discipline, scored a commendable 340 amidst challenging competition.

The weather conditions proved ideal with sunny skies, temperatures in the high 70s, and a light wind, setting the stage for a day of excellent golf. Noteworthy performances were delivered by several key players. Junior Matthew Mileti scored an 83, including crucial birdies on the par 3 13th and par 4 14th holes, which proved pivotal after recovering from an earlier quadruple bogey. Senior Travis Ropelewski contributed significantly with an 84, achieving two birdies on his back 9 holes. Another senior, Ben Wagner, scored an 86, while Jack Wunder marked a career-low with 87, praised especially for his consistent drives that significantly anchored the team's performance.

Coach's comments highlighted the improved discipline of the team, though he also pointed out areas needing work, particularly in chipping, which he believes cost the team shots. Key players shared their insights, with Mileti expressing confidence in his driving and its impact on his game strategy, while Wunder was pleased with his driving performance, acknowledging the reduced pressure in his first varsity appearance.

This tournament brought the Rockets' season record to an even 18-18. Additionally, coaches and players noted an improvement on the greens as a crucial factor in their 13-stroke improvement over their previous outing. With the season moving forward, the Bay High School Rockets Golf team continues to demonstrate growth and competitive spirit in high school golf.
