Bay High School Rockets Golf Takes Second at St. Edward Green Invitational
On August 11, 2025, the Bay High School Rockets Golf team participated in the St. Edward Green Invitational held at Highland Park Golf Course. The varsity boys team faced a competitive field comprising 12 teams from Cuyahoga County in an 18-hole stroke play tournament.
The Rockets concluded the event with a commendable second-place finish, posting a team score of 340, just seven strokes behind the champions. This performance bolstered their current season record to 48-32. The tournament challenged players with sunny weather, temperatures in the high 80s, and mild winds, which were ideal conditions for a golfing day.
Travis Ropelewski, one of the standout players, shot an 82, tying for second place among 60 players. He managed to overcome two triple bogeys, particularly impressing on the back nine with a 39 that included two birdies. Emmitt Naughton and Trevor Ormsby also delivered strong performances; Emmitt scored a commendable 38 on the back nine, while Trevor finished the round with an 85. Collectively, the team showed significant strength on the back nine, which was crucial in their successful finish.
The coach lauded the team's mental resilience and the effectiveness of their long iron plays, which were critical in achieving their turnaround on the course. Travis Ropelewski shared his personal reflections on his performance, noting his strong shot-making and birdie opportunities despite the challenges at the first and last holes.
Looking forward, the Rockets Golf team is set to compete in the Cleveland West Conference Round #2 at Seneca Golf Course. The team remains optimistic and focused as they continue to contend strongly in the season.
