Bay High School Rockets Golf Team Competes at Amherst Comet Classic
The Bay High School Rockets Golf Team participated in the Amherst Comet Classic on August 4, 2025, at Oberlin Country Club. The varsity boys' team faced off against 18 teams from Cuyahoga and Lorain County in this challenging 18-hole stroke play tournament.
The Rockets Golf team, with a season record of 7-11, ended the tournament with a team score of 353. Captain Travis Ropelewski led the team with an 81, showcasing significant resilience with clutch par saves on numerous holes, and finishing 10th out of 108 players. Following him were juniors Emmitt Naughton with an 86, and Matthew Mileti and Ryan Skryp both carding a 92. Ryan Skryp, participating in his first varsity start, expressed his excitement about the day, mentioning the initial nerves he overcame on the first tee.
The sunny weather with mild winds at the Oberlin Country Club set the stage for a day of intense competition. Coach praised the team's ability to recover from early nerves and improve their play as the tournament progressed. He highlighted the team's excellent ball striking yet pointed out the need for enhanced course management skills going forward.
Looking ahead, the Rockets Golf Team is set to participate in the Keystone Classic at Grey Hawk Golf Course, aiming to improve on their current strategies and outcomes. Bay High School continues to build on last year's journey to the state championship, setting high expectations for this talented group.
