Bay High School Rockets Golf Team Shines at Pioneer Classic

The Bay High School Rockets Golf team, representing the Junior Varsity Boys, delivered a standout performance at the Pioneer Classic held on August 7, 2024, at Carlisle Golf Course. Competing against 9 teams from Cuyahoga and Lorain county, the Rockets recorded a team score of 349 in an 18-hole stroke play format, marking a season low.

Sophomore Blake Ropelewski led the team with a career-low score of 79, buoyed by a crucial par save on his second hole, which set the tone for his confident play throughout the round. Junior Will Schrock and Freshman Aiden Carey followed with scores of 87 and 89, respectively, contributing solidly to the team's performance. Freshmen Deloy Johnson and Max Prahl also participated, scoring 96 and 98.

The sunny weather, with temperatures in the high 80s, added an extra challenge, yet the Rockets managed to navigate both the heat and the less-than-ideal course conditions effectively. The coach praised the team's ability to overcome these obstacles, highlighting the importance of maintaining focus on their own game. Blake Ropelewski reflected positively on his performance, noting his effective wedge play and excitement about future opportunities.

Looking forward, the Rockets Golf team is set to compete in the Middie Classic at Brentwood Golf Course. After the Pioneer Classic, their season record stands at 5 wins and 6 losses. Blake's exceptional performance at Carlisle has been a high point for the Rockets this season, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure and contribute significantly to the team's success.
