Bay High School Rockets' Resilient Effort Falls Short Against Lakewood Rangers

Cale LaRiccia | Bay High School | Jan 12, 2025

Lakewood, January 10, 2025 - In a tough regular season basketball face-off, the Bay High School Rockets were overpowered by the Lakewood Rangers with a final score of 42-67 at Lakewood High School. Despite the challenging start and a significant halftime deficit of 15-33, the Rockets showed remarkable resilience, especially in the second half.

The Rockets, led by standout player Emmitt Naughton, attempted a determined comeback after halftime. Naughton, named the 'Light The Fuse Player of the Game,' scored 13 points, and his contribution on the court was undeniable, not just in scoring but in overall gameplay as well. Alongside him, Wondu Evans added 7 crucial points. The team's collective effort saw them triumph in the third quarter and narrow down the lead to just 11 points in the final period, momentarily shifting the game's momentum in their favor.

Coach Cale LaRiccia reflected positively on the team's performance despite the loss. 'Our guys will tell you they had a rough first quarter. I agree. But their response, especially in the 2nd half, was something I am very proud to see from our guys. They didn't quit and instead banded together and went on their own run to give us a very real chance in the 4th [quarter],' he stated. This attitude underscores the Rockets' determination and highlights the team's developmental focus throughout the season.

Looking ahead, the Rockets, currently holding a record of 8-5 and 4-3 in the Cleveland West Conference, aim to redeem themselves and strengthen their position in the standings. Their next challenge is a home game against Brookside on January 14, 2025. With their recent performance and the home-court advantage, the Rockets are eager to return to their winning ways and deliver a strong performance for their supportive home crowd.
