Bay High School Rockets Swimming & Diving Teams Compete in Dual Meet Against Westlake
In a recent regular season event, the Bay Rockets Swimming and Diving teams, faced off against Westlake in a dual meet. This meet highlighted some notable performances from several Rockets' athletes across various events. For the Girls' team, the Bay High Rocket swimmers gave strong efforts, with Moriah Murtha leading the scoring. Murtha clinched 1st place in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) and secured 2nd place in the 100 Backstroke. Senior Lily Wavak also shone by placing 2nd in her individual races. Cecilia Gomez, another senior, earned 2nd and 3rd place finishes contributing valuable points to the team's total. Emery Ziemnik added by snagging a 2nd place in the 100 Butterfly. Freshman Lydia Murtha also contributed with a strong 3rd place finish in her 100 Freestyle. In the diving category, Anika Schulz and Elyse Mull showcased their skills by placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Although the girls team fought hard, they concluded the meet with a score of 74 against Westlake's 102. On the Boys' team, outstanding performances were noted from Luke Filiatraut and Ollie Brown, who dominated their individual events and were crucial in Rockets securing victories in team relays. Alongside teammates John Allan and Ilias Ghaffari, they captured first place in the 200 Medley Relay. Filiatraut, Brown, Ghaffari and Sam Farrar also won the 400 Freestyle Relay. Other remarkable contributions came from Sam Farrar, Liam Jager, Robert Abramov, Ilias Ghaffari, and Jason Hartzell, all of whom placed either 2nd or 3rd in their respective individual events. The Boys' efforts led them to a closer score line, finishing the meet with 78 points against Westlake's 90. The dual meet demonstrated strong individual and team performances across both Bay High School teams, setting a competitive tone for the rest of the season.
