Bay High School Varsity Basketball Falls Narrowly to Westlake in Thrilling Rivalry Game

In an intense matchup held at Westlake High School on February 7, 2025, the Bay High School Rockets faced off against their longstanding rivals, the Westlake Demons, in a regular season varsity basketball game. Despite a valiant effort, the Rockets narrowly lost with a final score of Bay 67, Westlake 72.

The game was highlighted by its competitiveness, featuring an impressive 17 lead changes, showcasing the skill and determination of both teams. Bay High's senior Collin Melvin turned in a standout performance, scoring a career-high 31 points, including five three-pointers, and leading his team with eight rebounds. Max Cockburn also played a significant role, contributing 17 points to the team's effort.

Unfortunately, their three-point attempt in the closing moments didn't find its mark, allowing Westlake to clinch the victory. Coach LaRiccia from Bay High School reflected on the game's intensity and the performance of his team. 'All season long we have seen this team fight. It was a back-and-forth rivalry game with a ton of lead changes and runs for both teams. I am incredibly proud of our guys for the way they played tonight,' he said.
