Bay Places Fourth in Maroon Division at Avon Lake Earlybird Invitational

ELYRIA, Ohio - Bay placed fourth among 15 teams in the Maroon Division at the Avon Lake Earlybird Invitational on Saturday at LCCC, scoring 132 points behind a balanced varsity effort. Clare Messmore led the Rockets with an 11th-place finish in 20 minutes, 49 seconds, while Aurora won the division with 47 points.
Kai Ripley crossed as Bay’s second runner, placing 18th in 21:22. Anika Schulz followed in 22nd at 21:37, giving the Rockets three finishers among the top 22. The placement of that front group established Bay’s scoring position and provided the foundation for its top-four team finish.
The Rockets continued to move runners through the field behind their leading trio. Elyse Edelman placed 35th in 22:37, completing Bay’s five-runner scoring lineup, and Nolie Piktel was close behind in 46th with a time of 22:58. Bay’s top five finished within 2:09 of one another, and the team’s second through fifth runners were separated by 1:36, helping the Rockets limit scoring gaps through the middle of the lineup.
Bay also received steady support from Ainsley Scheid, who finished 49th in 23:05. Elyse Mull took 60th in 23:34, and Chloe Vincent completed the varsity group in 65th at 23:39. The Rockets placed six runners inside the top 50 and had their final four Varsity Cross within 41 seconds, another sign of the pack depth that contributed to the team result.
The Rockets added a third-place team finish in the Open Division, scoring 110 points against a 12-team field. Lily Lawnicki led Bay in that race with a runner-up finish, covering the course in 22:50. That performance gave Bay a top-two individual result and complemented the varsity team’s fourth-place showing in the Maroon Division.
Racing in partly cloudy conditions with the temperature near 75 degrees, Bay opened the season with two top-four team finishes across the meet’s two divisions. The varsity’s closely grouped scoring lineup and Lily Lawnicki’s second-place Open Division performance highlighted the Rockets’ afternoon at LCCC.
