Bay Rallies Past Copley in Four Sets Behind Strong Serving

AKRON, Ohio - Bay High School recovered from a two-point loss in the opening set to defeat Copley 3-1 on Thursday afternoon. The Rockets dropped the first set 29-27 before taking the next three 25-22, 25-21 and 25-17, finishing the match with their most decisive set of the day.
The opener provided the tightest competition of the match. Bay pushed Copley beyond the standard 25-point finish, but the Indians secured the final two-point margin for a 29-27 victory. Rather than allowing the narrow loss to dictate the match, the Rockets responded in the second set and pulled out a 25-22 win to even the match at one set apiece.
Bay carried that response into the third set. The Rockets improved their margin, working to a 25-21 victory and taking a 2-1 advantage in the match. With a chance to close it out in the fourth, Bay delivered its strongest set, winning 25-17 to complete a three-set turnaround after the opening setback.
Service production played a central role in Bay's comeback. Payton Masterson led the Rockets with 14 service points, while Sloane Kerber added 11. Kendall Hoerig recorded eight service points and Amelia Vecchio finished with seven, giving Bay four players with at least seven points from the service line.
The Rockets also received contributions throughout the rotation. Lila Ross and Andy Naughton scored five service points each, Camille Costin added three, and Morgan Parris contributed one. Together, Bay's eight listed servers accounted for 54 service points as the Rockets steadily expanded their set-winning margins from three points in the second to four in the third and eight in the fourth.
