Bay Rockets Basketball Team Edges North Olmsted Eagles in Thrilling Overtime Victory

In a nail-biting encounter on December 13, 2024, the Bay High School Rockets varsity basketball team secured a pivotal conference victory against the North Olmsted Eagles, clinching the win 58-57 in overtime at North Olmsted High School. The win elevates the Rockets' season record to 4-1, with a perfect 2-0 in the Cleveland West Conference.

From the opening tip-off, the game was a thriller that kept fans on edge, showcasing both teams' resilience and skill. By halftime, the Rockets faced a slight deficit, trailing 23-24, setting the stage for a dramatic second half and eventual overtime. Collin Melvin led the scoring for Bay, racking up a crucial 18 points, while Ethan George and Tommy Mack contributed 12 and 9 points, respectively. A total of nine players scored for Bay, evidencing the team's depth and collaborative effort.

The standout player, Junior Ethan George, was named the Light The Fuse Player of the Game. His remarkable performance included three important 3-pointers in the third quarter, giving the Rockets the lead, and the decisive points in overtime that secured the victory. Senior Collin Melvin expressed his elation, stating, "It's great to go on the road and get a conference win. Our guys trusted one another and finished this one together." Coach Cale LaRiccia praised the team's unwavering spirit, "The best part about tonight's game was there wasn't a doubt in our player's minds. North Olmsted played hard and it was a back-and-forth battle. Our guys never put their heads down; they stayed cool, calm, and collected. I'm so proud of this team."

Looking ahead, the Rockets are set to face Elyria at Bay High School on December 14, 2024, aiming to continue their winning momentum in front of a home crowd.
