WESTLAKE, Ohio — Bay High School used a dominating opening surge to seize control and never let go, rolling past Westlake 56-29 on Tuesday night at Westlake High School for the Rockets’ first win over the Demons since 2006.

The Rockets set the tone immediately with an 18-0 run to open the game, overwhelming Westlake on both ends of the floor. Bay’s defensive pressure and rebounding limited the Demons’ clean looks, while efficient scoring in the paint and in transition gave the Rockets a commanding 30-9 advantage at halftime.

Forward Chloe Kazma powered Bay’s effort with a dominant double-double, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Kazma’s presence around the rim fueled the Rockets’ early run, as she consistently converted second-chance opportunities and controlled the glass to prevent Westlake from building any momentum.

Guard play and perimeter defense also proved critical in maintaining the lead. Anna Weingart contributed across the board with 4 points, 6 assists and 6 steals, helping to initiate the offense and disrupt Westlake’s backcourt. Norah Trefz added 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, providing another reliable scoring option while helping Bay generate turnovers that turned into transition chances.

Inside, Caroline Chilton anchored the defense with 7 blocks and 6 rebounds, deterring drives and closing off the lane whenever Westlake tried to attack the basket. Madelyn Lee chipped in 8 points and 3 steals, further reinforcing a defensive effort that held the Demons under 30 points for the game.

The victory lifts Bay to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play, adding significance to a performance that snapped a nearly two-decade drought against Westlake. With a fast start, balanced scoring and an imposing defensive presence at all five positions, the Rockets positioned themselves firmly in the conference race as the season’s second half continues.
