STREETSBORO, Ohio — The Bay Rockets Boys Basketball team came up one possession short in a defensive slugfest Friday night, falling 37-34 to Streetsboro in a Division IV Sectional Final despite one of their stingiest efforts of the season.
Trailing by two in the closing seconds, Bay had a chance to extend its postseason. After a 3-pointer from Kelan Rose and a split pair of Streetsboro free throws, the Rockets earned the ball back with about 10 seconds remaining and an opportunity to tie. The final possession did not produce a look to even the game, allowing Streetsboro to escape with the three-point win.
The game was tight throughout, with neither team able to create muchseparation. Streetsboro held an 11-10 edge after the first quarter and took a 20-19 lead into halftime. Bay responded after the break, clamping down defensively and limiting Streetsboro to just two points in the third quarter to grab a 24-22 lead heading to the fourth. Streetsboro managed to regain control late in the final quarter with just enough offense to withstand Bay’s final surge.
Bay’s defense set the tone all night. The Rockets allowed a season-low 37 points, recorded a season-high five blocks and held Streetsboro to just 24% shooting from the field. The third quarter was the defining stretch defensively, as Bay’s rotations, shot contests and rim protection forced repeated empty trips for Streetsboro and shifted momentum in the Rockets’ favor.
Ryan Miller led Bay with 10 points, adding two blocks and two steals as a two-way presence. Emmitt Naughton chipped in nine points and four assists, helping organize the Rockets’ half-court offense in a game where every possession was magnified. Ethan George contributed six points, while Rose added three assists to go with his key 3-pointer in the closing minutes.
Bay also controlled the glass for long stretches. Jack Bly pulled down 11 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks, anchoring the Rockets inside and helping limit second-chance opportunities. Brody Beggs added six rebounds, further reinforcing Bay’s interior effort in a low-possession contest where extra chances were at a premium.
Despite the narrow defeat, the Rockets’ sectional final performance showcased the program’s defensive identity and resilience in a pressure setting. Holding an opponent to its season-low shooting percentage and point total in a tournament environment underlines the standard Bay carried into the postseason, even as the campaign concluded a few points shy of advancing.
