Bay Rockets Boys Cross Country Excels at the Cardinal Invite with a 3rd Place Finish
The Bay High School Rockets Boys' Cross Country team showcased strong performance at the Cardinal Invite held at Cardinal High School on September 20, 2025. Competing against strong teams like Chagrin Falls, West Geauga, Orange, Berkshire, Streetsboro, and Independence, the Rockets secured 3rd place out of 27 teams. Leading the Rockets, Sacha Jones crossed the finish line in 8th place, clocking a time of 16:46. Close on his heels, Liam Jager took the 10th place, while freshman Gavin English impressed with a 14th place finish with a new lifetime personal record (PR) of 17:20. Stephen Murphy and Michael Taylor also contributed significantly; Murphy achieved a new PR of 17:24, finishing 16th, and Taylor setting his own lifetime PR at 18:09 to finish 39th. Also in the varsity race Dan Buttrick ran a PR of 19:27. Max Clevenger and Athan Thanos also ran PRs of 19:37 and 19:38, respectively. In the open race, Leo Kruger ran like a varsity runner with a 13th place finish in a career-best time of 19:29. He was followed by Micah Bendoritis who finished 17th with a PR of 19:47. Next up was Dawson Miller who ran a PR of 20:44. Gerry Maloney ran a tough race for a massive PR in a time of 21:45. Gavin Fry slashed a chunk off of his previous PR to run a PR of 22:40. Ryan Beigi had the largest PR of the day to cut 5 minutes off of his previous best to run a 25:02! Way to go Ryan! Looking ahead, the Rockets are set to run in the Paul Primeau Invitational at Gilmour Academy on September 26, 2025.
