Bay Rockets Boys Golf's Matthew Mileti Takes on Elite Competition at District Tournament

Rick Manderine | Bay High School | Oct 1, 2025

The Bay High School Rockets competed in the OHSAA Boys D2 NE District Golf Tournament at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna, Ohio, on September 30, 2025. The tournament brought together 72 of the top players from Northeast Ohio, highlighting a competitive field in an 18-hole stroke play format. Matthew Mileti starred for the Rockets, shooting a 77, just two strokes shy of qualifying for the State Championship. This performance came on the heels of his 78 at the sectionals, showcasing his consistent skill throughout the season. Notably, Mileti made a spectacular play on the 4th hole, where he nearly scored an eagle from 120 yards, landing the ball just 10 inches from the cup. The weather on the day was ideal for golf, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, creating perfect conditions for the players. Mileti, particularly praised by his coach for his prowess and mental strength during the tournament, was described as embracing the competition with confidence and calm. 'Matthew played amazing. Only three players advance to the state tournament in the 72 player field. He played with confidence and remained calm. He played smart. Matthew represented Bay High in a positive manner. The success is warranted. His passion for this crazy game is elite,' commented the coach. Reflecting on the event, Mileti shared, 'It was a great atmosphere. I learned a lot about myself. Our goal for next year is to qualify for districts as a team.' His ambition sets a high bar for the Rockets in the coming season.
