Bay Rockets Girls Basketball falls to Rocky River despite strong efforts on the glass

Rocky River used a decisive first-quarter run and a dominant third quarter to pull away from Bay High School, handing the Rockets a 64-39 loss on Friday night at Bay High School.
Bay opened the game with energy and execution, jumping out to an 8-5 lead in the first quarter. However, Rocky River seized control late in the frame, closing on a 10-0 run to flip the momentum and take a 15-8 advantage after one. The Pirates carried that surge into the second quarter, building their lead to 31-20 by halftime as the Rockets worked to keep pace offensively.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Rocky River came out of the locker room with its most dominant stretch of the night, outscoring Bay and stretching the margin to 22 points by the end of the third quarter. That cushion allowed the Pirates to manage the game the rest of the way, keeping the Rockets at arm’s length in the fourth as Bay continued to battle on the defensive glass and inside.
Offensively, the Rockets were led by Madelyn Lee, who finished with a game high 17 points to go with four rebounds, providing consistent scoring throughout the night. Lee’s production helped steady Bay during Rocky River’s runs and gave the Rockets a primary option in the half-court. Her ability to attack and finish kept Bay within striking distance through much of the first half.
Bay also received balanced contributions across the frontcourt. Norah Trefz added seven points and four rebounds, while Chloe Kazma chipped in five points and seven rebounds, helping the Rockets compete on the boards against a physical Pirates lineup. Anna Weingart contributed four points, six rebounds and three assists, impacting the game as a facilitator and on the glass, and Caroline Chilton anchored the interior defense with five rebounds and two blocks to go along with two points.
Despite the final margin, the Rockets showed positives in rebounding and interior defense, with multiple players contributing in both categories. As Bay moves forward, the emphasis will be on turning early leads into sustained four-quarter performances, while building on the effort and balance shown by Lee, Kazma, Trefz, Weingart and Chilton against a strong Rocky River squad.
