Bay Rockets Falter Late in Tight Contest Against Westlake Demons
In a closely contested basketball face-off at Bay High School on January 3, 2025, the Bay Rockets experienced a narrow defeat in their regular season game against the Westlake Demons, with a final score of 54-68. Despite leading at halftime with a score of 29-28, the Rockets could not maintain their momentum against the formidable Demons.
The game showcased notable performances from Bay High School's players. Max Cockburn led the scoring for the Rockets with 17 points, followed by Collin Melvin with 11 points. Caleb Rinehart and Tommy Mack each added 9 points to the team's total. Amidst these efforts, senior Derek Gura was named the Light The Fuse Player of the Game. Gura not only achieved a career high in rebounds but also played pivotal defense and facilitated the offense effectively.
The Rockets fiercely challenged the Demons throughout the game, especially in the critical moments of the fourth quarter, where they narrowed the Demons’ lead to just one or two points multiple times. However, despite their resilience and strategic plays, the Rockets fell to the Demons by the end of the contest.
